Janelle Vidal and Tiffani Bowman

Our current scholarship recipients Janelle Vidal (left), a sophomore at UCLA in the new Food Science program, and Tiffanni Bowman, also a sophomore at College of the Desert studying Hospitality Management, joined us in July at Kobe Japanese Restaurant for a Wine Down Wednesday fundraiser for LDEI. The young women spoke to the crowd of nearly 100 guests about their studies and how the LDEI scholarships are helping them.

Tiffanni Bowman is starting her third year at College of the Desert, and will graduate in fall 2019. She is currently enrolled full time. She graduated from La Quinta High School in 2016, where she was actively involved in the culinary program for four years. She had had the opportunity to help cater many private and public events such as the Palm Desert Food and Wine Festival. She also earned an internship at the Palm Valley Country Club where she learned the inner workings of a commercial kitchen and all that goes put into making an event possible.

Janelle has just started her second year at UCLA, enrolled in general and organic chemistry, pathways of science, and critical reading and writing. Her past three quarters in Environmental Science courses will be credited towards her Food Science degree. Janelle was among the first four-year graduating class at Rancho Mirage High School in 2017 where she completed four years of the culinary program under Chef Howard Merrick. Janelle was one of the student chef volunteers helping at the LDEI Bites & Sips for Scholarships event at PIRCH which raised money for our scholarships such as she received!
